  • MINI MASTERS

8-12 years of age, starting Saturday, February 18, 10am-12pm.  The classes will run for five weeks. Some materials will be required. Cost $150.  Checks should be made out to Vienna Arts Society and mailed to Vienna Art Center, 115 Pleasant St. Vienna, VA 22180.Attn: Pauline Lorfano.

 

Great Masterpieces

*Students will Study what makes Picasso Collages Cubist- they will explore with paper and paint and also create “Picasso works of art” for Young Picasso's.

*Students will discuss and study how Leonardo DaVinci's inventions were ahead of his time--- we will discuss and also create some of Leonardo's inventions.

* Students will discuss and study why do Monet's Water Lillies look so Serene- and visuals of all the Masters work, and will also create a "Monet".

 

  • YOUNG ADULT PAINTING CLASSES

12-18 years of age, Saturday, February 18, 1-3pm

Richelle Kaufman, instructor

 

*Students will develop-- Painting skills using direct observation and beyond. The class will focus on Line,Color,Shape,Perspective and Composition. Principles of design and Elements will be discussed as well as short teacher demonstrations.

Mediums include - Pencil,charcoal and Acrylic Paint. Emphasis of this class will be placed on finding and developing each students personal style.  Material list will be provided upon registration.

RICHELLE KAUFMAN

 

Richelle Kaufman is a classically trained artist with a certification in Forensic Art.  Ms. Kaufman has studied under Nelson Shanks in Philadelphia, PA as well as taken workshops from Bo Bartlett.  She currently teaches are to inner City DC children through the Higher Achievement program, as well as teaching watercolor classes at CHAW on Tuesday evening throughout the year.  Her work is in many private collections worldwide as well as The Villa Camilla Hotel in the Republic of Panama and several Hospitals in the City of Philadelphia.

 

CREATIVE THINKING THROUGH WATERCOLORS WITH MARNI LAWSON

Monday, February 27, March 5, 12, 19, 26; April 2, 9, 10am-12:30pm, $150 for 7 sessions

While learning the tools/building blocks for creating watercolors, students will also share exercises in creative thinking.  All levels of ability are welcome.  Class size is 5-8 students.  Students supply their own materials.   Click here for more information.

 

WATERCOLOR MONOTYPES WITH DEBORAH CONN 

Tuesday mornings, 10am-12pm starting February 28 for five weeks, $150.

In these classes, you'll learn how to prepare plexiglass plates (provided) and paint images on them using watercolor, caran d'ache, watercolor pencils and/or Stabilo crayons.  You'll then transfer your images to damp printmaking paper using a small etching press.  Artists will explore other techniques such as chine colle, using wet media acetate, and a two-plate process.  One class will focus on constructing a small "flip press" and making hand-rubbed monotypes using that and other tools.  Beginners through experienced painters are welcome.  "Happy accidents," instant gratification, and a sense of play are integral to the process, making it an engaging and really fun creative experience! 

 

DEBORAH CONN www.DeborahConn.com is primarily a watercolorist, but she also works in acrylic, collage and various forms of drawing media. Her favorite subjects are people.  Deborah has studied at the Art League School at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria and at workshops around the country.  She is a signature member of Potomac Valley Watercolorists and the Baltimore Watercolor Society and is an artist member of the Virginia Watercolor Society. In addition to Falls Church Arts, she also belongs to the Art League of Alexandria, Vienna Arts Society and the Miniature Painters, Sculptors, and Gravers Society of Washington, DC.

If you’d like to advance your skills in watercolors, and move up to the next level of painting, this workshop is for you.    The instructor will present new techniques and products, share some of the latest “tricks of the trade,” and guide students in their journey to advanced technique in painting, as well as in composition and design.  Demonstrations and individual coaching are a part of every workshop.  Students may also bring in incomplete or unsuccessful pieces and discover new ways to approach old ideas.  Finish those paintings!  Bring photographs to work from, and all supplies.  Catherine Hillis is an energetic and entertaining workshop instructor, who has presented popular workshops in locations such as Tuscany, Italy, Abiqui, New Mexico, Georgia, North Carolina and throughout Virginia.  She has earned five signature memberships and competes regularly in national competitions.  Her work was included in the 2011 North Light publication, “SPLASH 12” and she has been featured in American Artist Magazine.
