Free Artist Presentation: The Vienna Arts Society welcomes the public to virtual artist demonstrations the second Thursday of each month. Mike Flynn, an instructor at the Art Factory in Manassas, presented a Zoom watercolor demonstration Thursday, October 14, 2021.

I began watercolor painting over 20 years ago with evening classes and workshops. It is my favorite medium. My style is often impressionism, with a goal to display light and color, use loose brushwork and have varied edges.
In recent years, I have explored mixed media using gouache, ink and charcoal combined with watercolor. I have also added oil painting to my challenge list. I learned how this medium is vastly different from watercolor. The texture of layered paint, color mixing and brush work are exciting to learn and find success.
I was the president of ArtBeat Gallery Inc., Manassas, VA for 13 years, a cooperative venture with other artists. In 2017, I joined The Loft Gallery, Occoquan, VA where my art is currently exhibited.
I have been teaching weekly watercolor and mixed media classes at the Art Factory (formerly the Center-for-the-Arts at the Candy Factory) Manassas, VA. Class details can be found in the catalog at their website.
