SUBMIT YOUR
“ART OF KINDNESS” SUBMISSIONS
UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30, 2020

Description of the Virtual Project

The first project, in June, was Chalk the Walk, to create messages of kindness, encouragement, and gratitude during this difficult time. Signs on Parade was our July focus, and next month we will Rock your August with inspirational messages painted on rocks and left in the Town Green and gardens at the Vienna Community Center. Every month, we are posting photos on the VAS website. Please send yours to ViennaArtofkindness@gmail.com. If you upload your photo to your own social media, please add #VASArtofKindness, #ViennaArtsSociety, #VAS.

Submission Guidelines

Public submissions containing a description of an act of kindness in Vienna, an illustration, or a poem should be anonymous so please do not sign them or use real names. Hardcopy submissions should be no larger than 8 1/2′ x 11″ and can be mailed directly to the VAS Art of Kindness c/o Amy-Jo Hendrix, Town of Vienna Parks and Recreation, 127 Center Street South, Vienna, VA 22180 or dropped off at painted submission boxes all over town once the COVID 19 restrictions have been lifted (see the box locations tab).

If you would prefer to submit your kindness description, illustration, or poem digitally, please ensure that the text is in Helvetica 14-point text so it is easily readable and is no more than 250 words long. Illustrations and photos should be in jpeg format.   Email submissions directly to viennaartofkindness@gmail.com.  Final submission deadline is September 30, 2020.

Interested donors/sponsors/performers

A main tenet of the Vienna Arts Society’s mission is to engage with the community and enhance public life through art.  VAS views the Art of Kindness event as a community builder and not a fundraising opportunity. We are not charging admission and are depending heavily on volunteers and donors.  Town officials strongly support the event and Vienna businesses are hosting submission boxes to make public participation as easy as possible.

If you are interested in performing at the event for free or donating to defray costs as an act of kindness, please reach out to our co-chairs, Marybeth Davis at mbad07@gmail.com or Mary Ellen Larkins at melarkins@verizon.net.
