I’ve liked Rembrandt and his work. His painted portraits have always given me an impression that the subjects’ eyes were staring at me. I loved the realism so I had the upmost respect for him as an artist. He first inspired me to paint people in portrait style. Later, I felt like I was painting portraits of people with no souls and could not express my emotions through such work. By chance, I later received a com-mission to paint fantasy illustrations. I now admire Chris Van Allsburg and Shaun Tan in the fact that they embrace realism and I want to paint like them. I believe my technique and personality are unique and I am always expressing not only the subject of my work but also the story behind the work or series.
