Photographs & Report: Tara Holtaway

The Vienna Arts Society’s 38th Annual Treasury of Art Show opened last Friday, November 16th at the Vienna Community Center, with the reception at 7 pm. Several artists and patrons attended this event, enjoying the food, refreshments, and most of all the impressive display. The show received entries from many artists all over Fairfax County, VAS members and non-members alike, and was judged by Marion van Landingham, one of the founders of the Torpedo Factory. The event was chaired by Donna Garone, Teresa Ahmad (Art Center Director), and Tara Holtaway (VAS Vice President). Invaluable direction and assistance was provided by Dore Skidmore and Debi Elliott, who offered their experience and advice along the way.

Awards were given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, along with Honorable Mentions. The awards were distributed by VAS President Margaret Johnson and were as follows:

  • FIRST PLACE- “Golden Season” by Liang Wei
  • SECOND PLACE- “Sanibel Trophies” by Francesca Creo
  • THIRD PLACE- “Red Shadows” by Carolyn Grosse Gawarecki

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

  • “Rain Catcher” by Carolyn Holmes
  • “Summer” by Liang Wei
  • “Peg’s Gift” by Francesco Creo
  • “Behind the City Wall” by Florence Setzer
  • “Bird Of Paradise” by Alina Bennett
  • PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD – “Reflecting Fish” by Dirk Bell, Jr.

Once again, a heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to all those who volunteered their time and effort to this occasion. Producing the Treasury of Art Show is an insurmountable task which would not be possible without the selfless volunteerism and behind the scenes efforts of many to make the show happen. We are blessed to have such altruistic assistance by several members as well as artistic talent in Vienna Arts Society and throughout our area.
