The VAS is a volunteer membership organization.
We are able to keep our membership fee low because everyone pitches in
and does a job. There are now opportunities for artists to exhibit
work and to help.
Gallery sitting at the Art Center is a necessary job and one that we
desperately need more people.
(There are videos to watch during the time you sit, and a plethora of
books to look through.)
If you show at any of our venues, other than the VAS Gallery at Village
Green, you should be giving some time during the month that you show.
Information and orientation is available, just ask. Contact Teresa
Ahmad for more information. |

Ticket to Art was also a smashing success! Thanks to
everyone who donated works of art and contributed to the event. Do
to the efforts of all, we finished March to the good, rather than in the
red.

AUGUST MEMBERSHIP MEETING – CRITIQUE
Diane Frykman is an oil
painter who has been developing her style for 30 years. She has won art
awards from Oklahoma to Alexandria, Virginia. While traveling as an Air
Force dependent and then as an Army wife, she took private classes, and
then earned a degree in illustration and an MFA in painting and
sculpture from VCU. She taught art in elementary schools in North
Carolina and Virginia, and was awarded Art Teacher of the Year in
Northern Virginia. She continues to show her work, teach adults, and
paint in her studio in the Workhouse Art Center at Lorton, Virginia.
Diane is
currently concentrating on still life in a large format, including
objects of a personal and historical nature. Her style is realistic,
based on the traditional oil painting methods of underpainting and
glazing. She is a former member of the Springfield Art Guild and a
former juried member of the bin Gallery at the Torpedo Factory. She is
currently showing in the Belnavis Art Gallery
in Springfield, Virginia, and at the historic house at Green Springs
Garden Park in Alexandria, Virginia, through the end of August 2010.
Diane looks forward to leading the annual VAS
August critique of member paintings!
