The Vienna Arts Society welcomes the public to free-of-charge virtual artist demonstrations the second Thursday of each month.

Our featured artist in September was Joyce McCarten. Years of outdoor landscape painting and figure drawing have given McCarten a rich painting vocabulary, which she uses to develop her abstract work. Through observation, interpretation, experimentation and pure imagination, she takes the familiar and alters it until it reflects her artistic vision.
McCarten is an award-winning artist whose work is in private and public collections in the U.S,, Europe and South Africa. Many of her paintings are inspired by visits to the places that speak to her own sensitivities.
This year, she has traveled to London, Venice and Lisbon. This fall, she plans to do some plein air painting, which she says helps her observe her surroundings more carefully, in France and Morocco.
