In this workshop you will paint with watercolors on canvas or canvas boards. It is VERY different than painting on paper as you might guess, and it is very fun. You will paint more ‘subtractively’. In other words, you will put paint on the canvas then move it and remove it to paint your subject. You have to try it to love it! Bring photos of things to paint or use Marni’s photo references as inspiration.
Marni Maree is a founding artist at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA since 2008 where she has a studio and teaches painting and drawing. Marni loves to teach as much as she loves to paint and travel. She also teaches classes in her home studio in Springfield, the Loft Art Center in Occoquan, Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, and a variety of local workshops as well as International workshops (France, Italy, Caribbean cruise, Chile, Transatlantic on the QM2) She also coordinates and teaches for the Summer Enrichment Program for Village of Hope School in Haiti since 2007. Marni has won awards for her watercolors. The most recent were for the 2019 Virginia Watercolor Society, Merit Award and for the 2017 National Watercolor Society, Dick Blick Purchase award. She is a member of the National Watercolor Society, Potomac Valley Watercolorists and the Springfield Art Guild.
SUPPLY LIST: Bring your own watercolor paints and brushes if you have them. But Marni will also provide student grade paints along with plate palettes and a supply of brushes for anyone who doesn’t have watercolor supplies. The only thing students will need to purchase is a canvas or two (MAXIMUM SIZE 9”X12”) or Marni will have some small ones available for purchase in class. Buy a regular canvas, nothing special. Also Marni will have stretched ones and canvas boards for purchase as well.
